Shokudo
the so-called Japanese-Marche

Katsu curry chicken with rice

so as to speak, i'm a fan of japanese curry. this dish was fairly average, but still i love it! the katsu was crisp and not too hard. the portions were perfect too. the only down side was that they could have presented the dish in a more appetising way.

the boy ordered this dish - eeks i don't know the name. but it should be Udon in stir fried style. It's unique in a way because i've ate tonnes of udon before but all in the miso soup style, yet this was refreshing because they fry it with seafood! hmm, sounds like fusion food?

just looking at the picture of this beef sukiyaki makes me drool. i'm a sucker for sweet stuff and sukiyaki sauce fits the bill to whet my appetite. i waited for close to ten minutes for the Japanese staff at the sukiyaki counter to prepare this. It's actually my favourite out of the three mainly because a part of me thinks it's a tad healthier. haha

Overall, Shokudo is a nice place if you're looking for japanese fusion kind of food. but there isn't a lot of variety to choose from and some of the prices aren't really justifiable for the quality of the food they produce. dear kept saying that they're just using frozen food to cook, which makes it "non-authentic"? a plus point for the neo-print stations in the restaurant, uber cute(:(:

TOGI KOREAN RESTAURANT
As usual was prowling katong area for new places for dinner. Came by this small korean retaurant, located just beside Cafe Oliv. After some consideration between the 2 , decided to settle for this! ( remembered some good reviews by a friend )
Complimentary Sides
Complimentary sides , 6 plates! Egg roll , Fish cake , Achar , Kimchi, Beansprouts and Water chessnut jelly.
Thought it was a very warm gesture from them , they even offered to refill at no charge ! thumbs up for service
Bimbim Bab
We let the waiter " mash " the whole thing up! aww looked like fun we'll do it ourselves next time! We chose the jepalang version with mixed vege , mushroom , chicken. Portion was very large, good for 2. I dont really eat much korean but i thought this was nice , pretty light yet full of flavour. and yes i ate a lot of veges!
Seafood + Silk Tofu Hot Soup

The bright red colour looks really intimidating but thank god its not as spicy as it looks. lots of tofu inside with prawn , squid and fish cake and crab stick. Nice dish to accompany with the rice we ordered. Only complain is that the prawns inside were tiny and not much of it.

Overall nice place to dine, left full! Service is very casual and friendly in a familyish kind of way. Allowed me to pay thru mastercard even though didn reach their minimum bill requirement too. will be back in the future !

AGLIO OLIO BISTRO
Nestled in a quiet corner of tanjong pagar lies aglio olio bistro, famed for its " singapore styled pasta" , which comes laced with explosive chilli padi! Ambience wise, it was pretty well done as shown in the pic with dim lighting , comfortable and spaced out seats. They offer both indoors as well as al fresco dining but we settled on the former.
Jumbo Mix
Basically a platter of nuggets , onion rings, cuttlefish balls, crinkle cut fries and spiced wedges. Fried goodies! I must say though the thai chilli that came with it was pretty unique.
Green Curry Chicken Pizza

Thin crusted pizza with a green curry base. Taste wise, this was kinda strange, not really in a bad way but just... strange. Could not really make out the green curry taste. Think i'll stick with something more conventional the next time. haha

Seafood Aglio Olio

Now heres what we came for! First impressions, uh- oh looks like prawn noodle! but to our surprise it was nothing like it at all. Pasta was cooked al dente and lightly tossed in olive oil. Plenty of fresh seafood too. We opted for the normal *spicy* level, which was already pretty fiery for us. Shiok!! Enjoyed this dish, maybe next time will be more adventurous and try the extra spicy option.

view of our seats and the night scene

Deli Moroccan

After buying camera , went to hunt for this restaurant which we heard about thru our fav food webbie hungrygowhere.com! This time we were out to savour some turkish fare. After walking round in circles finally found the place, Bussorah Street, just behind the big mosque! Atmosphere was nice , feels different. As for the view (shown below ), beautiful.

Chicken Tangine

Potato !!!! this dish was loaded with potatos! more than we can manage, and hidden beneath was a chicken thigh. The meat was soft and juicy, reminded us of herbal chicken. As for the broth, it had the strong taste of ---- u guessed it, potatos! haha Interesting dish , though i think we should have ordered the koofta tangine or beef tangine, which was without the potatos, and the broth was tomato based. Shall try that next time!
Pita Bread
Chicken Kebab With Fries
Yum, this was nice. There was a lot of chicken! they were flavourful and marinated with spices. There was this beans that came along on the side, dont know what it is, but we liked it haha.
Moroccan Mint TeaI like that it came in a cute antique looking pot with a small glass to drink from. Basically consist of tea brewed with mint , interesting to try but be warned it may be a tad sweet! but i guess you could tell the lady to cut down on it. Large portion too probably fills 8-10 small glasses!
Service here was really friendly, had the homey feeling.
So there, our first experience with mediterranean cuisine! we'll be back for more , to try their mixed kebab , salads , and moroccan apple juice!
and of course we still got more places to add , altazzag egyptian restaurant and cafe le caire

MAK'S PLACE
Looking for a place for dinner at night after leaving from my place. Decided to eat somewhere opposite Kembangan station so wasnt left with very much choices. First thing that came to mind was Seafood Cabana ! haha. After walking up and down the street a little searching we decided on this place called Mak's Place. Their tagline was " Restaurant food at hawker price " hence , the "hawkerant". Place was pretty packed , so it couldn be that bad right !
Punggol Seafood Mee Goreng
Yum , long time since i ate this. Not really "punggol mee goreng " style, not as red and not as fried. This version was more wet. Me and baby kinda prefer it actually , not so oily and not too dry. There were quite a lot of stuff in it too, fish cake, egg , prawn , sotong. and i liked the accompanying chilli paste too!

Seafood Mui Fan

Wanted something light , but not noodles so we ordered this. Taste-wise nothing really special but sure was above average from kopi tiams. Lots of ingredients too , and the main highlight , the giant prawn on top!
Banana Split

Baby had ice cream craving so we went fo the banana split. choc . vanilla . strawberry icecream sandwiched between a banana sliced in half. First bite of the waffle ... lao hong one ! couldn bite thru haha, ok bad start. rest was just walls ice cream i presume with bits of ice inside. But then again cant complain since its just $3. anyways it did satisfy our craving =D Thought of the idea of having a stall in hawker centres which sells ice cream. Could have creations like banana split , sundae , waffles, cones, cup , floats , at hawker prices. Quite a change from the usual ice ka chang and hot deserts , feasible ? dont know but if there was such a stall id probably choose it over ice ka chang hee.

anyway we left FULL . Mak's place is quite a nice place for late night munchies with better than kopitiam food at low prices , lives up to its name of being a hawkerant
